St Kitts-Nevis leads OECS as top exporter to United States

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Thursday November 28, 2013, CMC – The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) has exported US$84.4 million worth of goods and services to the United states, during the first nine months of this year, according to officials figures released here.

St. Kitts-Nevis led the nine-member sub-regional grouping in trade relations with the United states, exporting an estimated US$39.9 million worth of goods and services followed by St. Lucia US$11.7 million, Grenada at US$8.1 million and Antigua and Barbuda and Anguilla, both at US$7.2 million.

The figures released by the US Census Bureau, show that the British Virgin Islands exported US$5.3 million, Dominica US$2.1 million, St. Vincent and the Grenadines US$1.9 million and Montserrat one million dollars.

The figures also show that St. Kitts-Nevis was the major exporter from the OECS and Barbados to the United States in 2012, exporting goods and services estimated at US$106.3 million. The twin island Federation also led the Eastern Caribbean in exporting goods to the North American country during the period 2000 to 2011 with figures showing that trade was valued at US$115.8 million.

St. Kitts-Nevis exports mainly electronic and rum products to the United States.
