Government remaking itself

It is always a privilege of Government to be associated with new products that can create new ways to achieve goals. Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Chris Sinckler, made this observations today while speaking at R L Mark’s 360 degree Solutions Showcase at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

“Now in Government of course we have long recognised that we cannot do business as usual,” Sinckler said. “It is a cliche term because you would have heard it 100 years ago if you were alive. However, more than ever now, local, regional and international standard requirements dictate to us that we must be far more efficient, more clinical and more accessible to engage the world both in our social and economic needs.

“I recall that in 2010, the late David Thompson had signed an agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank to implement the competitive programme.”

The finance minister noted that one of the areas it sought to address was the issue of key bottlenecks in the capacity of Government. Sinckler said Barbadians were speaking in relative terms when they addressed key bottlenecks to support business flow, business integration and business facilitation as well.

He pointed out that some of the key departments government wanted to look at in particular were the Town Planning Department, the Immigration Department, the Corporate Registry and those agencies and businesses owned by Government that directly impact on the efficiency of business and business culture.

He noted that it was very important in business to quicken the pace of doing business and it was with this objective in view that Government set up the Electronic Single Window at the Customs Department.
